This weekend I ventured out to D.C. (on a whim I might add) to visit the Smithsonian's National Museum of African Art. I recently heard Tashira of Politics and Fashion rave about From the Deep and I just had to check it out -and boy was it worth it. Drexciya, a mythical Aquatopia in the heart of the Atlantic Ocean is filled with the bodies and souls of our ancestors from the traumatic passage during the Atlantic Slave Trade. This 33-piece exhibition features works that will be sure to take your breath away. With a combination of sculptures, videos, and photographs, From the Deep will leave you in deep thought and yearning for more.
