Giants: An Exhibition Review

Art

Woman and Man on Grayscale, Derrick Adams

September 29, 2024

I recently traveled to Atlanta to attend the Giants: Art from the Dean Collection of Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys, and I must say it was worth the trip, I haven't been this excited by an art exhibition in a while.

Currently on view at the High Museum of Art, this exhibition is flooded with heavy hitters as far as the eye can see. With pieces from Nina Chanel Abney, Jordan Casteel, Kehinde Wiley, and Tschabalala Self, this presentation of Black excellence stimulates creativity, self-reflection, and pure wonder.

The illumination and impact of legendary and extensive artists are transcendent giants who push the boundaries of what can be portrayed on canvas and in photography. By amassing revolutionary pieces, the Deans are ultimately collecting history, a history that is told by our people to the world. Moments like these ensure the continued prosperity of Black art and build a foundation for today's Black creatives. Until next time.
