Turn Again to the Earth: An Exhibition Review
Painter in the Olive Grove, Henri Matisse
May 25, 2025
When I discovered that the Baltimore Museum of Art (BMA) was showcasing a series of exhibitions centered on the balancing of art and the environment, I was utterly thrilled. My background and passions engulf sustainability and art, and I knew these exhibitions would speak to me, to us, as patrons.
"Centered on the environment, this museum-wide undertaking encourages conversation and action around climate change and the role of the museum…"
With over 10 exhibitions debuting through January 2026, this initiative is simply refreshing. This past month I journeyed to the museum to explore the exhibitions of Air Quality: The Influence of Smog on European Modernism and Watershed: Transforming the Landscape in Early Modern Dutch Art. Below are highlights from both exhibits and the grandeur of art mimicking life.
Clad in landscapes and impressions, pastels and muted hues, Turn Again to the Earth is a bewitching display of how the environment and art collaborate seamlessly. If you're in the mood for a dazzling exposition of environmentalism and beauty, I highly recommend attending this show.
A sustainability plan for the BMA's continued path to environmentally friendly practices will be published this spring. Until next time!
